What is required? The owner/occupier of a building (i.e. business owner, managing entity such as a body corporate) must maintain at all times a plan of action to be taken in the event of a fire, and provide adequate instructions to people working in the building concerning the action to be taken by them in the event of a fire to ensure their own and others safety. As fire safety consultants and experts in the field of training, we can assist you with each of the legislative training requirements, whether it be online or onsite. The training requirements under the legislation are: General Evacuation Training This involves advising of the location of the fire safety reference point and procedures for evacuating the building. Our consultants can provide this training to you onsite if necessary or you may choose to view our demonstrational video tool. First Response TrainingTraining in the use of manually operated fire alarms and fire fighting equipment. Access to our website instructional video can be undertaken to receive the necessary training required in the operation of fire equipment. Evacuation Coordinator TrainingThe Evacuation Coordinator must know and understand the contents of the emergency procedures and Fire Evacuation Plan for the premises. They need to be able to effectively coordinate the evacuation of the building in an emergency. The Evacuation Coordinator is also required to provide training in general evacuation procedures, and first response equipment. Our consultants can provide guidance information via our demonstrational video tool. However our building consultants can provide the necessary training onsite. Note: For residential complexes, if an Evacuation Coordinator cannot be appointed onsite, it is only in this case that a member of the Body Corporate would be appointed. Fire Safety Adviser for High Occupancy Buildings High Occupancy Buildings are buildings with 30 or more workers or an effective height of more than 25m. If the building is classed as “high occupancy” then a Fire Safety Adviser must be appointed (qualified holding a Building Fire Safety Adviser Licence) and the FSA would appoint responsible personnel for evacuation procedures thus the Evacuation Coordinator would normally become the Chief Warden whilst still maintaining the role as outlined above. Other personnel may include Deputy Warden, Area Warden etc. We have a qualified Fire Safety Adviser on staff (Mr Stephen Malcolm Licence No. 000786) to assist your requirements - please contact us for more information. Training Records Records of fire and evacuation instructions given to a person and records of evacuation practices e.g. fire drills should be kept together with all your building fire records onsite in safe storage facility.
