Just like every other workplace in Queensland, the Body Corporate common property areas are classed as a workplace area and should be checked for the presence of asbestos.

If a complex was built before 1990, then it is probable that there is asbestos present.

It is required under the Asbestos Code of Practice and WHS Regulations to ensure that an Asbestos Audit and Management Plan are implemented to provide a safe environment for persons living, working or visiting the site such as committee members, unit occupants, visitors to the complex and tradesmen working onsite.

Signage erection and Re-inspections of the Asbestos Audit and Register must also be set in place.
